Hand-crafted rattle, wooden handle, bull horn.
Rattles are approx 10″-11″ long. Please note, being that they are handmade out of real bull horns, no two rattles are identical in shape or color. Some may be a solid color or close to it, while some may have traces of other colors. “Cream” is the dominant color.
Traditional Horn Rattles are used to produce the rhythm for song and dance. The Horn Rattle is also sometimes used as a companion to the water drum. Horn Rattles can be either hit against the palm of the hand, or shaken. Rattles made of cow horn were not made until after the European invasion. Prior to the introduction of cows, rattle materials in the Northeast were limited to bark, gourd, and turtle shell.
