Homemade all-natural herb-infused oils with beeswax, comes in a 4 oz jar. Deep-heating rub for muscle and nerve pain.
Cayenne, like all Capsicum peppers, contains capsaicin, a substance that is effective at blocking pain. Capsaicin tricks the brain into thinking that the area it touches when topically applied is physically hot. Capsaicin binds to a nerve receptor called VR1, which signals to the brain that you are being exposed to extreme heat. The nervous system responds by releasing a neurotransmitter called substance P. Once all the substance P within the area in physical proximity to the capsaicin application is depleted, no more pain signals can travel from that area to the brain. After the initial flush of heat sensation, the sense of pain is significantly dulled.
With calendula for its skin-soothing properties, plantain which speeds the healing process, and the anti-inflammatory action of juniper berries, this salve helps ease the pain associated with diabetic neuropathy, shingles, back aches, arthritis, muscle stiffness and swelling, and general muscle soreness from other causes.
Caution: Do not use in an area with an open wound, as it may sting. Wash hands thoroughly after use to avoid getting the salve into your eyes or other mucus membranes as this may sting as well (if you wish to use the salve on your hands, it is advised to apply it before bed, then wear a pair of latex or other gloves overnight, then wash hands in the morning). Finally, capsaicin is a blood thinner, so those who are anemic or taking any other blood thinners should consult with their doctor first.
